Hello, and Welcome to the Zachary, La Chapter! 

Thank you for visiting the Zachary, La Chapter of Catholic Schoolhouse. We are so excited to be entering our first year as a new chapter, located at St. John the Baptist in Zachary, La. Our school year began on August 29th (which also happened to be the Memorial of the Passion of Saint John the Baptist. St. John the Baptist, Pray for Us.) Our program this year includes Nursery through 7th grade with plans and room to grow in the upcoming years.

Our chapter meets at a building graciously opened to us at St. John the Baptist on Thursday’s from 9:15-12:45 with the option to attend daily Mass before our chapter day begins. Mass begins next door in the church at 8:00am with our chapter building opening at 8:45 to allow our families the opportunity to get settled in before our morning announcements. Our building includes nine classrooms with access to additional classrooms in a neighboring building for growth. We also have a fenced grassy area for outdoor play and gate access to the neighboring park to have lunch and community gathering after our chapter day is complete.

We meet on three Thursday’s a month with our fourth Thursday opened to field trips. We meet for 24 weeks throughout the year broken into four quarters that we follow in the Tour Guide. Also included in addition to our meet ups are two showcases, park days, All Saint’s Day party, fund raisers (to give back to the beautiful parish that is so graciously hosting us), Parent’s night, mom’s night, family day, and more. We are also offering a yearbook for our families to look back on all that we have done!

To walk you through our school day, it all begins with morning prayer, pledge and announcements. The children then move on to Chorus followed by two hours of structured class time filled with memory work, introduction and review of what is presented that week in our tour guide. In addition to the class time, they also get 30 minutes of hands-on art and 30 minutes of hands-on science. Class sizes are advised to be no larger than 12, with our biggest currently 10 giving the children space and time to thrive in their learning.

Within our Chapter at Catholic Schoolhouse our parents play an important role in its success. One parent is required to stay with their children throughout the school day while also volunteering their time and talents in becoming a parent helper, nursery lead or helper, or a class leader in either pre-grammar, grammar, art or science. This model allows the parents to be active in their children’s chapter day learning as well as allows growth within our Catholic Schoolhouse Community by coming together to make our chapter day a success.

The Classical approach provided through Catholic Schoolhouse is such a blessing to so many homeschooling families and communities. No matter what level of homeschooler you are, if you use Catholic Schoolhouse as your spine or supplemental, the beauty that comes from this Classical approach of a Catholic based education can be fruitful for all. From the learning of virtues, the learning of all core subjects so beautifully meshed with our faith or the growth of new friendships and community, Catholic Schoolhouse provides the building blocks for it all.
